Gary “Dick’’ Dampier, 74, of Urbana, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021, at Cox Hospital in Springfield.

He was born Nov. 18, 1946, in Decaturville, Mo. to Harry and Pauline (Berry) Dampier.

On Sept. 10, 1982, he married Karen Ray (Kelsay) Dampier.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandchild, Cody Dampier, and a nephew, Eric Kjar.

Dick spent his early life in dairy farming. After that he drove trucks for Kraft, and eventually became the owner and operator of DKC Trucking in 1996.

He was a faithful member of Hopewell Freewill Baptist Church in Tunas.

Survivors include his wife Karen Dampier; six children, Gary Dampier and his wife Doris, Andy Dampier and his wife Jennifer, Michelle Wingo and her husband Mike; Tony Dampier and his wife Jamie, Angie Swearingin, and Cody Dampier; four sisters, Peggy and husband Harvey, Pat and husband Jerry, Betty and husband Red, and Dottie and husband David; two brothers, Bill and wife Brenda and Bobby J. and wife Judy; 15 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Gary “Dick’’ Dampier will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021, in the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home in Urbana. Visitation was held Tuesday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Mission Ridge Cemetery.
