The U.S. Postal Service announced Wednesday the stamps it will release next year, one of which showcases a local Route 66 landmark.
In a press release which showed off the range of stamps the Postal Service planned for next year – from sunflowers to Muhammad Ali – the USPS announced stamps that celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Mother Road. One showcases Lebanon’s Munger Moss Motel.
The motel, located at 1336 East Route 66, has a storied history on Route 66 and has greeted many travelers along the road. Its most recent owner is the Dels Corporation.
The City of Lebanon owns the motel’s sign, as per a previoulsy reported on September agreement with the Dels Corporation.
“We are honored that the USPS is including one of Lebanon’s many Route 66 attractions in their collection,” Mayor Jared Carr said in a statement. “As the ‘Heart of Route 66,’ we are glad our legacy will live on in this commenorative stamp.”
The 100th anniversary of Route 66 is next year.
