Flage Day to be observed

Posted
Lebanon Scouts BSA Troop 57 is hosting a Flag Retirement Ceremony starting at 7:30 p.m. Flag Day, June 14, at the Laclede County Fairgrounds. The public is welcome to bring tattered flags and attend the ceremony. Ceremony organizer and Life Scout Michael Owen said scouts regularly hold flag retirement ceremonies, but this is the first time for a city-wide event. He said the US flag will receive specific reverence and other flags like state and religious flags may also be retired. Scouts will hold vigil until the fire is extinguished. Flag grommets will be presented to veterans as a symbol of respect. Elks Lodge 2557 will hold a Flag Day Ceremony at 6 p.m. at the Lebanon Veterans Memorial Park in Lebanon located next to the Cowan Civic Center. This event will chronicle the history of the US flag. Elks Lodge 2557 Past Exalted Ruler David Schneider encourages the community to attend Flag Day events. For more on this story, see the LCR.
