Ellen “Marie’’ Childers, 100, of Lebanon, died Sunday, March 3, 2024, in Lebanon.
She was born Dec. 21, 1923, in Eldridge to Oat and Ethel Shadrick Waterman.
On Oct. 17, 1946, she was united in marriage to Hays Childers.
Those preceding Marie in death include her parents; her husband in 1975; one sister, Ocia Gregory; and one brother, Loren Waterman.
Marie was a homemaker and put the needs of her family first. She was a natural born caretaker and over the years cared for many of her family members as their health was failing. She had a servant heart and was willing to help friends and neighbors in any capacity as long as her health allowed. In younger years, she enjoyed tending to her flower garden and quilting. More recently, she enjoyed completing jigsaw puzzles and visiting with friends. However, time spent and memories shared with her family is what she treasured most.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Marie is survived by one son, Joe Childers and his wife Sue of Idaho; two grandchildren, Chuck Childers and his wife Tawni and Ray Childers and his wife Sonia, all of Idaho; six great-grandchildren, Payton, Haylie, Morgan, Taylor, Dallas and Jenny; one great-great-granddaughter, Charlotte; one sister-in-law, Myrtle Waterman of Kansas; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services for Ellen “Marie’’ Childers will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Shadel’s Colonial Chapel with Rev. Marsha Vincent officiating. Burial will be in Hufft Cemetery under the direction of Shadel’s Colonial Chapel of Lebanon.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. until service time, also on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Shadel’s Colonial Chapel.
Memorials in memory of Marie have been suggested to Hufft Cemetery. Donations can be left at or mailed to Shadel’s Colonial Chapel, P.O. Box 948, Lebanon, Mo. 65536.
