Edward V. Lux, “Ed,” passed away peacefully on August 25th, 2024, at the age of 92, at The Veterans Home in Mexico, Missouri. Born on June 21st, 1932, in Waukegan, Illinois, to Arthur Leslie Lux and Edna Melvina Newberry Lux. Ed lived a life marked by dedication, service, and faith.
Ed was united in marriage to Dorothea Grace Heisner on January 1st, 1953, and celebrated 64 years together until her passing. Their marriage was a testament to their unwavering commitment to each other.
A proud and decorated veteran, Ed dedicated 20 years of his life to military service, rising to the rank of Technical Sergeant. He served with distinction in the Korean War and throughout the Vietnam War era, where his exceptional skills in radio communications were frequently called upon. He was part of an elite security service group and was honored with an Air Force Commendation Medal for his service in Taiwan. Alongside his family, Ed’s military career took him across the globe, with postings in Korea, Taiwan, Germany, Texas, Florida, and numerous other states.
Upon retiring from the Air Force, Ed and Dorothea moved to Lebanon, Missouri, where they purchased a farm. There, Ed transitioned to a second career as a cattle farmer, a role he embraced. A man of deep faith, Ed had a profound love for God. He was involved in his community, donating time and resources to various churches and led a Bible study group during his years in Taiwan. When he could no longer attend church in person, he found solace and strength in religious programs. Ed and Dorothea were known for their generosity, often donating cars and other essentials to family, friends, and those in need.
Ed kept a keen interest in local and world events, spending hours reading newspapers and watching the news. His love for music was a lifelong passion, with a particular fondness for opera and the works of André Rieu. His favorite opera, Aida’s “Triumphal March,” which now serves as a fitting tribute as Ed makes his own triumphant march into Heaven, reunited with his beloved Dorothea and their son, David.
Ed is survived by his children: Mary Walker (Homer), Kim Weddle (James, now deceased), Edward A. Lux (Lisa), and Laura Lux Keegan (Andrew). He also leaves behind grandchildren: Christina Weddle, Rachel Hardin (Brandon), Natalie Walker, Parker Keegan, Chloe Keegan, Rebecca Mead (Bob), and Heidi Lux; great-grandchildren: Alexandria Warren (Dylan) and Ethan Kamplain; and great-great-grandchildren: Bryant, Brooklyn, Aurora, and Joshua Hardin, Kane & Raylan Warren, Ford, Wren, and Walker Simpson, and numerous nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Dorothea Grace Lux and his son, David Alan Lux, his parents, siblings, and his son-in-law James Weddle.
A graveside service will be held at Lebanon Cemetery, 601 Lynn Street, Lebanon, Missouri, at 11:00 AM on October 25th, 2024. Donations in his memory may be made to VA Veteran’s Home in Mexico, Missouri or Oasis Worship Center, in Lebanon, Missouri.
