Treatment courts as an option for people dealing with substance abuses issues has been a trend for the past decade and it has now come to Laclede County. Associate Circuit Judge Larry Winfrey said it started as a way to handle the recidivism rate among drug abusers in the criminal justice system. “Missouri was slow getting on board with treatment courts and the 26th Judicial Circuit is one of the last to adopt a treatment court,” he said. “The reason are, first, budgetary. Treatment courts take a lot of resources.” For more on this story see Wednesday's LCR.
