DAVID HERMAN HARING

David Herman Haring, 87, of Competition, died Thursday, May 18, 2023, in Lebanon.

He was born Jan. 12, 1936, to James and Jesse Mae Haring inRutherford County, N.C. On April 20, 1957 he married Shelby Jean “Polly” Mills to whom he was married for 64 years. They had 3 children, 13 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Deborah Ann Haring, his sister, Beulah “Pat” Coleman, his grandchildren, Shawn, Jared, Caleb, and Daisy Haring, and his wife Shelby.

David grew up in a sharecropping family in the last years of the Great Depression. He served our country honorably as a diesel mechanic in the US Navy 1953-1956. In 1970 David moved his family to Laclede County where most remain today. David loved stock car racing and built and raced cars throughout the 60s, 70s, and 80s. He loved working on machines and working on his farm raising beef cattle in the Competition area.

David was baptized in the Christian faith and was a long-time member of the Competition Baptist Church and later became a Christian Sabbath Keeper.

He is survived by his two sons, Robert Haring and Carl Haring; 9 grandchildren: David Justin Haring, Ryan Haring, Ginger Holloway, Andrew David Haring, Kimberly Haring, Zachary Haring, Paige Haring, Garrett Haring, and Dallas Haring; 5 great-grandchildren, Jensen Baumgarth, Kyle Haring, River Rogers, Oliver Weaver, and Brooke Holloway; 2 brothers, Pete Haring of Philipsburg and Don Haring of Albany, Ore. along with many other relatives in North Carolina.

The family will have a private service at a later date. His body will be cremated and laid to rest alongside his wife in McBride Cemetery.
