It was an excellent start to the season for the Lebanon High School cross country team as they competed at the Southwest Cross Country Coaches Association meet in Bolivar on Sept. 4.

At this particular meet, they race everyone together and then break up medals and results by class.

According to head coach Josh Smith, the team competed hard and had a great first meet.

The girls’ team had two Missouri Class 5 varsity medalists in Juliane Lopez (18th, 21:56) and Maddie Jay (20th, 22:09).

On the JV side, Jessa Joiner won first with a time of 23:51. Kendall Bybee placed eighth, and Jasmine Alley took 23rd, respectively.

“Juliane is a top runner in the area and looked much more confident on Saturday than last year,” Smith said. “Maddie has been one of our leaders and ran near her personal best. Jessa was the JV champion and beat a lot of girls in the varsity race.
