County honors Old Glory Fund donators

Posted

The Laclede County Government Center celebrated the return of Old Glory in a ceremony July 2.
County officials held the event for the 4th of July holiday and the new flag draped over the front of the building. Purchased with the help of contributions from the community, the flag replaced one that was vandalized last July.
The event included recognition of the contributors for the new flag, which is 10 feet wider than the previous flag.
Office of Emergency Management Director Randy Rowe thanked the “flag brigade” volunteers he said had kept watch over the flag every night.
“Most of you didn’t know about this, but this team of individuals has been guarding this flag every night from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m since we put it up,” he said. “We’ve had cameras on it, we’ve had live security teams,” Rowe said. “They made sure Old Glory didn’t get messed with this year.”
