A camera system that would allow Lebanon Police to read the license plates of vehicles traveling in the city is being considered.
Jarrad Schomaker, IT director, presented information about the license plate reader at a City Council work session Thursday night. Purchase of the system may be on a future City Council agenda.
Schomaker said cameras would be mounted in multiple directions. The license plate reader would be able to scan more than 2,000 plates a minute depending on the traffic flow. The scans are relayed to a centralized processing unit and can be checked for stolen vehicles, wanted persons and abductions. It also includes location and GPS coordinates and time and date image capture.
