Clyde Wesley Hart, 95, of Lebanon, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023, in Lebanon

He was born Sept. 19, 1927, in Macks Creek to Arthur Hart and Maude Shadrick Hart.

Clyde began his schooling in the Sleeper Community, then Ira in the Eldridge Community, where he spent the majority of his youth. Little did he know, he was right across the river from his future wife, Alberta “Berty” June Rucker.

He served four years in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. Once he returned home from the Army, he moved north to LeClaire, Iowa for employment.

On Jan. 31, 1953, he married his Missouri girl, Berty, and moved to Pleasant Valley, Iowa. He worked at Alcoa Aluminum Company as a crane operator for thirty years. He and Berty also welcomed three children, Carrie, Cindy and Rex.

His goal was to return to Missouri on the day he retired and he and Berty returned to Phillipsburg, Missouri. They purchased land in Sleeper where he raised cattle and horses. He and Berty worked the land and stayed busy.

In his early years, he enjoyed coon hunting with his brothers and watching boxing. Later on in life, he enjoyed trail riding on his horse and maintaining his family cemetery.

His grandchildren were very special to him and he enjoyed being with them very much. One of his favorite activities was eating ice cream with his grandchildren.

He enjoyed playing card games, like pitch and rummy. He found humor in the simple things. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends and loved to talk about old times.

Clyde is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Berty in 2019; his brothers, Walter, Wardie and Bob; his sisters, Alberta, Pauline and Emma Lee; two great-granddaughters, Lila and Hope.

He is survived by two daughters, Carrie Sien and her husband, Bryan of Stoutland; Cindy Harkey and her husband, Tom of Bettendorf, Iowa; a son, Rex Hart and his wife, Ann of Lebanon; six grandchildren, John, Jayna, Jonas, Julia, Joshua and Dylan; eight great-grandchildren, Devon, Chloe, Leilani, Cora, Natalie, Quinn, Brayden and Colton; and his sister, Maxine Goffe of Lebanon.

Clyde was a man of integrity. It was important to him to be a good provider, always doing what he said he would do, with honesty and kindness. He strived to make the world a better place. He was a loving husband, caring father, brother, grandfather and loyal friend. He will be missed beyond measure.
