CLINTON CLARENCE JEMES

Clinton Clarence Jemes, 83, of Grovespring died Monday, June 19, 2023, in Grovespring.

He was born July 6, 1939, in Wright County to Willie “Bill’’ Jemes and Violet (Layman) Jemes.

On July 18, 1959, he was united in marriage to Venita Faye Bennett.

Those preceding him in death include his loving wife, Venita; one son, Kevin Jemes; his parents, Bill and Violet Jemes; a granddaughter, Kelly Jemes; his brothers, Clifford, Clayton, Eldon and Buel Jemes; sisters, Loretta Jones and Kaylynn Jemes.

Clinton worked at Independent Stave Company in Lebanon for over 40 years. He oversaw green mill operations and spent many weeks on the road visiting mills in seven states. In his free time, he loved tending to the farm, welding, wood working, and saw milling. He also enjoyed gardening and canning produce with Venita. Time spent with his family is what he treasured most.

He was saved and baptized at an early age. He was a deacon and longtime member of Mt. Zion Cuba Church.

Clinton is survived by one son, Kenneth Jemes and his wife Debbie of Grovespring; three granddaughters, Jessica Palmer and her husband Jeff of Hartville; Tracy Dixon and her husband Dustin of Mansfield, and Mira Jemes of Thorne, Miss.; one grandson, William Jemes and his wife Kaylee of Grovespring; six great-grandchildren, Sarah and Mason Palmer, Rylee, Brayden and Kinsley Dixon, Clara Jemes and another granddaughter expected in October; two sisters, Marie Klein of Richland,and Carol Nelson and her husband, Lonnie of Grovespring; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many close friends.

Funeral services for Clinton Clarence Jemes were held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2023, at Shadel’s Colonial Chapel with Pastor Jerry Ward and Pastor J.R. Jones officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion/Cuba Cemetery. Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Shadel’s Colonial Chapel. Memorials have been suggested to Mt. Zion/Cuba Cemetery (please make check payable to the cemetery).
