City, school work together to recognize veterans

Recognition presented at Monday ceremony

Posted
The Lebanon R-III school district collaborated with the City of Lebanon’s Veterans Memorial Board to recognize veterans Monday with an assembly open to the public at Lebanon High School. After the posting of the colors, the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of the National Anthem by the LHS Chamber Choir, retired LMS teacher and veteran Michael Kellner was the first speaker. He spoke first on the values of a leader and then on the importance of connecting veterans to mental health resources. Sharing his own struggles with mental health, Kellner said, “If my story can help one person even a little bit, then I can deal with some embarrassment. At least until later this week when I unpack all this with the nice lady doctor.” For more on this story, see Wednesday's LCR.
