City extending Springfield Road

A street project to provide an alternative route through town and reduce traffic on Jefferson is set to begin next month.
Demolition for the Van Buren project is expected to begin in November, according to the city. Weather permitting, the street department hopes to have it completed the first of spring.
Street Supervisor Mike Moore explained the project in a written report to the City Council.
“We are moving the intersection of Van Buren to align with the Springfield Road intersection at Commercial Street and making this intersection an all-way stop,” Moore said. “This will allow for better and safer movement of traffic through this area.
Traffic congestion, primarily Jefferson Avenue, was one of the priorities on the citizen survey, conducted for the city last year.
