The Lebanon City Council heard a report on plans for Atchley Park at a work session meeting Monday night. Parks and Recreation Director John Shelton said the work will come in phases with funding coming from a sales tax for parks approved by voters in 2021 . “Since the passing of the parks tax, our park board has been actively developing plans for park renovations,” he said. “Using the city park survey, the master plan and citizen input, the park board has developed a strategy that will address park needs and possible park expansion in the future.” He said the main focus will be on renovating one park at a time from start to finish, as was done recently at the city’s Wallace Park. The Park Board’s next focus will be on Atchley Park. Shelton said this will be a large project spread out over several budget years. For fiscal year 2026, Shelton said work is planned for the baseball field area, concession stand, back stop netting and shade. In 2027, plans call for pickleball and basketball facilities and a parking lot at the Indian Creek entrance. In 2028, work will include walking trail expansion, relocation of the dog park and a playground, Work will turn to there from of Atchley Park in 2029 with a parking lot, shelter and splash pad. The front play area and turf will be the planned projects for 2030. For more on this story, see Wednesday's LCR.
