Betty May Hughes, 71, of Lebanon, died Tuesday, July 7, 2020, in Lebanon South Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lebanon.

She was born Feb. 23, 1949, in Lebanon, Mo. to Marvin Benjamin and Maudie Katherine Varner Hainline.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John Henry Roy and Samuel Milton Varner, and a sister, Gladys Perry.

She was raised in the Niangua area and then moved to Buffalo. She later made her home near Waynesville for a number of years. She was a devoted homemaker and also worked as a cook and waitress at various restaurants in the area.

Betty had made her profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Pulaski County.

She is survived by a brother, Willis Dean Hainline and his wife Sandra of Long Lane; two sisters, Annie Crossland and Margarette Dinwiddie and her husband Dennis, all of Long Lane; several nieces and nephews; her companion, Charles Lee Starnes of Lebanon; special friends, Barbara and Johnny Williams, Carol Decker and Mary Decker, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Betty May Hughes will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2020, at Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Lebanon. Burial will be in New Home Cemetery near Falcon, under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon. Visitation will be 10 a.m.-11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home.
