Bear sighted in Downtown Lebanon

Posted

Shania McBride was headed to work Wednesday morning when she spotted a black bear running down Commercial Street near Madison Street Grill.

McBride captured footage of the bear at about 6:10 a.m.

The bear was spotted Tuesday night on Jackson Street, and Lebanon Police officers and Missouri Department of Conservation agents responded. Officials tried to tranquilize the bear, but it proved uneffective. They next tried to herd it out of town.

The bear was sighted again Wednesday morning near Elm Street Eatery and on Commercial Street.

According to the Conservation Department, bear sightings are on the increase. A bear was seen multiple times last month in the Beck Lane area.

Officials ask people to leave the bear alone. You are asked to call the Lebanon Police Department at 532-3131 if you feel the bear is threatening human or pet safety or destroying property.
