Barbara S. Calton-Burnell, 83, of Sheboygan Falls, Wis., died Monday, Sept. 12, 2022, in Sheboygan Falls, Wis.

She was born Nov. 17, 1938, in Rochester, N.Y. to Lester and Emma Wasko Longbine.

Barbara was preceded in death by her first husband of 37 years Dennis Lee Calton in 1997; her second husband of 10 years John R. Burnell in 2013, and her sister and brother-in-law, Mary (Ken) DeRosa.

She was a special education teacher for several years and retired from Stoutland R-2 School District in 1998. As a special education teacher, she impacted the lives of many children with disabilities and was a longtime coach and volunteer with Special Olympics of Missouri. She was nominated as a finalist for the Hall of Fame for Missouri Special Olympics in 1999. She enjoyed being outdoors whether swimming, taking one of her many daily walks or gardening. She was creative and enjoyed crafts. Barbara was an avid reader and had a beautiful singing voice. She will be remembered most of always helping and caring for others, and enjoying time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters, Cheryl (Ted) Peterson of Sheboygan Falls, Wis.; Nancy (Steve) Gregory of Edgewater, Md.; grandchildren Kyle and Kristen Peterson, niece Edith (Joe) Rosinski and stepchildren Deborah Davenport, John Burnell II, Matthew Burnell, Andrew Burnell, Nathan Burnell and their families.

Funeral services for Barbara S. Calton-Burnell will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2022, at Shadel’s Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Rose Memorial Park under the direction of Shadel’s Colonial Chapel of Lebanon. No visitation will be held. Sign guest book at www.shadelscolonialchapel.com.
