Barbara Jean Lanifer, 67, of Lebanon, died Monday morning, Jan. 18, 2021, at the Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo.

She was born March 15, 1953, in Muscatine, Iowa to Willard and Vivian M. McIntyre Lanifer.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Marlene Lanifer and Janice Hopley.

She was born and raised in Iowa and then continued to make her home in Iowa for most of her life. Barbara was a devoted homemaker to her family and also worked at the laundry service in nursing homes for many years. She had worked at several different care facilities through the years, including Wilton Care Center and at a Lutheran Home for the last 14 years. For the last two years, she had made her home in Lebanon.

Barbara had attended Community Baptist Church near near Lebanon for the last two years.

She is survived by a daughter, Crystal Lanifer of Lebanon; four sons, Merle Sterner and his wife Julie of Lebanon; James Dean Ellis-Helt of Yuma, Ariz.; Andrew John Ellis-Helt of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Floyd Ellis-Helt of Sioux Center, Iowa; a stepson, Adam Bowers of Muscatine, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Kiersten Holt, Ashlee Marie Holt, James Christopher Holt, Bella Nizzi, Connor James Holt, Carolyn Michelle Sterner, Faith Annette Long and Caleb Carroll, Tanner Wickhorst and Kayla Bing, and Riley Bowers; a sister, Sherry Holliday of Grandview, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Rick Bowers; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Barbara Jean Lanifer will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, 2021, at the Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Lebanon with the Rev. Allen Reeves officiating. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery, under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Visitation will be noon to 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. A memorial to the American Cancer Society has been established and contributions may be made through the funeral home.
