Anna Lee Coates, 100, of Lebanon, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021, in Lebanon.

She was born May 6, 1920, in Marshfield, Mo. to William Henry and Mollie Bell (Robinson) Brinkley.

Anna Lee was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Coates; one son, Max Coates; and two brothers, Paul Donald and Robert David Brinkley.

She was a school teacher. She taught in rural schools like Pack School in Webster County, later at Niangua before moving to Lebanon with her husband where she taught third grade or filled in where needed. She retired from the Lebanon School District. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Democrat Club in Lebanon. For many years she worked at the polls for various elections. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an exclusive teacher sorority. She enjoyed fishing, tending to flowers, quilting, and was an excellent cook. She also loved to travel, going to all 50 states and several countries. Most of all she treasured the time spent with family, and the annual family reunions.

Survivors include one daughter, Carol (Bill) Peterson of Mansfield; four grandchildren, Brenda (Clarence) Greer of Dallas, Texas; Samuel (Angela) Smith of Yukon, Okla.; Matthew Smith of Springfield, and Ryan Coates of Kansas City, Kan.; two great-grandchildren, Molly and Andrew Smith.

Viewing for Anna Lee Coates will be held from 1-2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, 2021, at Shadel’s Colonial Chapel. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, at Marshfield Cemetery, under the direction of Shadel’s Colonial Chapel of Lebanon. Sign guest book at www.shadelscolonialchapel.com.
