Tennis team defeats Hillcrest in districts

In the first round of the Missouri Class 2 District 9 tournament, the No. 3 seed Lebanon Yellowjackets defeated the No. 6 seed Hillcrest Hornets 5-0 on Monday afternoon at the Mary Jean Wampler Tennis Facility.

After defeating the Hornets 9-0 earlier this season and not surrendering one single game, Ron Crowell and his team only dropped one total game in the district contest.

In doubles play to start the match, No. 1 doubles team Danessa Howe and Olivia Pruitt defeated Tiana Gourdin and Riley Jamison 8-0. The No. 2 doubles team of Skyler Maynor and Ashton Arthur beat Grace McNamer and Shayden Boswell 8-0, and the No. 3 doubles team of Ally Gerant and Jasmine White were victorious over Marissa Kendrick and Amara Coranodo-Lund 8-0.

In singles play, the players played no-ad and best two out of three sets to six.

At No. 1 singles, Howe dominated Gourdin 6-1, 6-0. Pruitt beat Jamison 6-0, 6-0, and White was victorious over Coranodo-Lund 6-0, 6-0.

The match ended at 5-0 because there was no possibly way for the Hornets to come back. Crowell mentioned that he thought the team played well and they were slated to take on the No. 2 seed Willard Tigers on the road on Tuesday afternoon.
