Local group competes in Taekwondo

Summit Taekwondo Center hosted the Battle of Ozarks Regional Tournament Saturday at the Cowan Civic Center.  The tournament is in its fourth year.

Each year, the school thgat accumulates the most points during the tournament takes home the Battle of the Ozarks Trophy.

Summit Taekwondo Center has taken the trophy home in the past, but this year the winner was Impact Martial Arts.  Summit Taekwondo placed second.

The tournament has  grown from three schools the first year, to a total of 12 schools this year, coming from as far away as Fayetteville, Ark. and Kansas City with a total of 110 competitors.

Summit had a total of 19 students participate.  The events consisted of forms (a set of patterned movements based on the rank of the student), free sparring (contact fighting with protective equipment for points) and a board breaking competition.  Students can choose to compete in all the events or specific activities.
