Lebanon track and field team prepares for State meet on Saturday

After plenty of hours of hard work and dedication, members of the Lebanon track and field team will put it all on the line this Friday and Saturday as they gear up for the Missouri State Championships at Jefferson City High School.

The ‘Jackets and Lady ‘Jackets recently competed at the Missouri Class 5 Sectional 1 track and field meet at Waynesville High School last Saturday with the boys’ team placing 7th out of 16 teams with a score of 56 points, and the girls’ team finished 4th out of 15 teams with an overall score of 66 points, just two points behind 3rd place Kickapoo. In total, the team qualified in 14 total events.

The lone Sectional champion for LHS was junior Jenna Glendenning who won the 300m Hurdle race with a time of 46.09 seconds.

Derek Tucker placed 2nd overall in the Discus throw with a mark of 146-03, and senior Cameron Abel took 3rd in the Shot Put with a mark of 48-02.75. Abby Jackson was the only girls’ qualifier in throwing events, taking 3rd in the Discus with 101-01.

In jumping events, Mariah Mebruer placed 3rd overall in the High Jump with a mark of 5-00.00, and senior Skylyr Leake qualified in the Triple Jump with a mark of 34-06.25.

The relay team of Maggie Meburer, Jocee Pettyjohn, Kiara Waterman, and Glendenning set a new school record in the 4x100 meter relay race with a time of 50.12 seconds. In other relays, the girls’ 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Ashlynn Leochner, Pettyjohn, Mariah Mebruer, and Glendenning placed 3rd while the boys’ 4x400 team of Tanner Roy, Manny Del-Rio Vasquez, Cordell Zebel, and Zach Jamieson took 4th with a time 3:29.88. The boys’ 4x200 relay team that consists of Kale Keagy, Roy, Mebruer, and Kaelen O’Connor also qualified by taking 3rd overall.

In the short distance events, Glendenning took 3rd in the 100m Hurdles while Tyra Rogers placed 3rd in the 400m dash. O’Connor qualified in the 200m and 100m dash by placing 4th in both events to round out the qualifiers.
