Although it may not have ended in the results they wanted it to, the Lebanon High School boys’ golf team was still able to qualify three golfers for the Missouri Golf State Championships after the Sectional round on Monday at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield.

Junior Cooper Hess led the way for Lebanon with a low score of 77 and finished tied for fifth. Hess shot a 36 on the front nine before scoring a 41 on the back nine.

“I thought I played well on the front nine by shooting even par and making the turn I lost focus and made a few mental mistakes which I hadn’t done all year that proved to be costly to our team,” Hess said. “I’m happy to make it to state, and I wish all five of us could’ve made it, but it’s going to be a great experience, and hopefully we can play well.”

Senior Hayden Brogdon and junior Tryn Titus each finished tied for 10th by both shooting an 81.

Titus said he thought he could’ve played better, but is excited for the opportunity to make up for it at the state tournament.
“I didn’t play well as I wanted yesterday,” he said. “I had high expectations for myself going into the tournament, but I am happy that I was still able to qualify for state.

“I really want to go out and put together two sold rounds and give myself a chance to compete. I think Cooper and Hayden both feel the same way. I think we all have a chance to compete at the top.”

Freshman Grant Carr finished the day with a 92, and freshman Houston Brackett carded a 98 on the day.

As a team, Lebanon finished tied for third out of nine teams with a score of 331. Glendale won the Missouri Class 4 Sectional 3 tournament with a 309 and Jefferson City finished second with a score of 328.

The Class 4 State Championships will begin Monday at 8:00 a.m. at Swope Memorial Golf Course in Kansas City.
