With help from the Lebanon Optimist Club, former Lebanon High School golfer Hayden Brogdon was able to compete in the Optimist International Junior Golf tournament held in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. from July 26 - August 2.

The tournament consisted of 135 players from 28 different countries. Brogdon was one of four players from the state of Missouri.

Brogdon was gracious of the support he received from the Lebanon Optimist Club.

“Without the help from the Lebanon Optimist Club, this trip would have never been possible,” Brogdon said. “The donations and support that I received from them was something that I am thankful and appreciative of. Although I didn’t play as well as I wanted to, the trip I was able to take is something that I will never forget.”

While there, he was able to play four different courses, all of which were different than anything in Missouri, according to Brogdon.

“The biggest difference that I noticed between Missouri golf and Florida golf is the water,” he mentioned. “There were much more water hazards on the courses, and the course itself was very wet. This was for sure the biggest challenge for me because it feels like you are almost playing a different game when you are there.

“Outside of the golf, it was unlike any other golf tournament I had been to. Being able to meet so many different people from other nations was something that I would not have been able to do had I not gotten the chance to attend this tournament.”
