In a tournament that featured a handful of talented teams, the Lebanon varsity volleyball team won third-place at the 2018 Pinkest tournament on Saturday held at Lebanon High School.

The ‘Jackets started off the day in pool play, defeating the Camdenton Lakers in two sets, 25-13, 25-21. In their second match, Lebanon defeated the eventual tournament champions in the Hermann Bearcats, 25-21, 26-24 before falling to Columbia-Hickman in their final game of pool play, 25-21, 25-20.

“We wanted to start the morning off strong, and we did just that,” head coach Jenny Collins said. “We served received well and picked up some tough balls defensively."

After all the results were calculated, Lebanon was awarded the No. 1 seed headed into bracket play. In their first game, the ‘Jackets faced off against the Jefferson City Jays, a team that defeated Lebanon earlier in the year.

This time around, LHS got the best of the ‘Jays, winning in two sets, 25-20, 25-10 in the first round of bracket play.

“Right before the start of that match we talked about some of the things that we needed to key in on and execute better than the first time we played them,” Collins said. “Our hitters, led by Katie Esther and Skylyr Leake that match did a fantastic job of rewarding our defense as they did an excellent job mixing up their attacks and making themselves hard to defend.

“That match win was a great confidence booster going into the semifinals.”Below are the overall stats from Saturday:
