Lucy O’Neil, 72, of Lebanon, died Saturday, April 13, 2019, at her home.
She was born April 19, 1946, in Springfield, Mo. to Edwin “Ned’’ and Gladys Leeper Draper.
On Jan. 29, 1966, she married Thomas J. O’Neil.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Joseph R. and Arthur Gibbs Draper.
Lucy was raised in Lebanon and graduated from Lebanon High School. She then went on to the University of Missouri, Columbia where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree. While at MU she met and soon married Tom. She taught at the Prairie Home Elementary School for at time while Tom finished law school. For the next several years, she stayed home with the children until they were both in school. She then began teaching sixth grade at Hillcrest Elementary School in Lebanon, a job she maintained for ten years. Through the years, Lucy was always a devoted homemaker to her husband and family.
She was raised in the First Congregational Church (United Church of Christ) in Lebanon and then was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Lebanon.
Survivors include her husband Tom O’Neil, of the home; one son, Bob O’Neil and his wife Krista, of Lebanon; one daughter, Katie O’Neil, of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister; Catherine Pickett, of St. Charles; four grandchildren, Caroline Syverson, David Symanosky, Tyler O’Neil and Bodee O’Neil.
A visitation for Lucy O’Neil will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Lebanon with private graveside services to be held at Lebanon Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation and contributions may be left at Holman-Howe Funeral Home.
