James Welch, 85, of Lebanon, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2019, in Lebanon.
He was born July 5, 1934, in Neligh, Neb. to Henry and Ruth Pigeon Welch.
On June 7, 1957, he married Clair Lucille Welch.
He was preceded in death by his wife Clair Lucille; parents, Henry and Ruth Welch; a son, Michael James; a daughter, Jeanette Lucille, and a brother, Donnie Welch.
James was born and raised in Neligh, Neb and graduated from Neligh, Neb. High School in 1952. He received his bachelor’s in criminal justice from University of Maryland. James attended the local Methodist Church. He spent 27 years in the military and retired in June 1980. James and wife moved back to Mansfield after retiring. He and his wife moved to Farmington where he started working for the Missouri Prison System. Once he retired from the prison system he and his wife moved to Lebanon, where he lived at the time of his death.
He is survived by his daughter, Ruth Ridenhour and husband Michael, of Licking; a son, James Welch and his partner Brent Hall, of Alabama; three grandchildren, Miranda Renee McCourt, of Long Beach, Calif.; Samantha Lucille Tabb, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Claireesa Joy, of Kirksville; three great-grandchildren, Kendall Lucille Edwards, Charlie Ray McCourt and Peyton James Tabb; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
A Celebration of Life Reception to honor James and Claire’s life together will be held from 2-7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, at the home at 22658 Green Hills Road, Lebanon. Full military honors will be at 3:30 p.m. at the home. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Mansfield.
