Betty Jane Johnson, 73, of Lebanon, died Saturday, July 6, 2019, at Lebanon South Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Lebanon.
She was born April 29, 1946, in Toledo, Ohio to Kendall  Freedland and Virginia Joan Purol Compton.
In June of 1971 she married Marvin Gene Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Marv, and a brother, James “Jim’’ Kendall Compton.
She was raised in Toledo, Ohio, and graduated from Bowsher High School. After she and Marv were married, they had a longtime business of painting, cleaning and restoring apartments. When they retired they moved to Lebanon, where Betty was a devoted homemaker to her husband.
Betty was raised in the Catholic tradition of Christian faith. After Marv’s passing, Betty became a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Lebanon. She devoted many hours helping with the Shepherd’s Pack Program, sponsored by the church, to feed needy local children on weekends.
She is survived by a brother, Robert Compton; two sisters, Ruth Ann Johansen and her husband Kjell, of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; Lenore Wilson and her husband Gary Hinsey, of Toledo, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Toni Compton, of Centertown, Mo.; four nieces and nephews, Antrina (Johansen) Marshall and her husband James; Kjell Johansen, Ginny (Gallagher) Watson, and Danny Gallagher; a great-niece, Annabelle Marshall; many dear friends, including Judith Emmich, Nancy Peregoy, Larry Nobel, Brian Stockdall and Chris Johnston.
Funeral services for Betty Jane Johnson will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2019, in First Christian Church in Lebanon, with the Rev. Greg Turner officiating, under the care and direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon. Visitation will be 3-4 p.m. Friday in the church.
Memorial contributions to First Christian Church Shepherd’s Pack Program may be made through the church or the funeral home.
