A project to identify points along the Trail of Tears through Laclede County could begin as soon as this year.
Mark Spangler, curator of the Route 66 Museum at the Lebanon-Laclede County Library, brought the proposal for signs along county roads to Tuesday’s Laclede County Commission meeting.
Commissioners seemed receptive the idea, which Spangler said would require several more steps to complete, including a signed agreement with the county.
Spangler, who is a board member of the  Missouri chapter of the Trail of Tears Association, said there are already signs on Interstate 44 noting the Trail of Tears route.
