LHS student brings gun to school

A 14-year-old Lebanon High School student reportedly took a handgun to school on Tuesday and threatened to harm other students.

According to the Lebanon Police Department, the incident was reported by a student to the LPD Tuesday night. The police do not know whether the gun was loaded at the time it was taken to the school.

"A student who observed the weapon came forward and told us about the incident," LPD Public Information Officer Kacie Springer said Wednesday morning.

Police were able to locate the juvenile suspect and the handgun Tuesday night. The juvenile was taken into custody and then transported to a juvenile detention center.

The incident was first reported to parents by the Lebanon R-3 School District at about 10:20 p.m. Tuesday night through an email.

According to the email, law enforcement informed the school Tuesday evening and confirmed that the student is now in police custody.
“There is no threat to other students or staff at this time,” the statement said. “We will continue to partner with law enforcement as this investigation continues. The safety and security of our students and staff are always our utmost priority.”
