Learning to fly

You can learn a lot in Lebanon. In fact, you can earn everything from a high school diploma to a college degree, but did you know that you could also get licensed to fly a plane without ever leaving town?
Dr. Curtis Mather owns M & S Aviation, Mather and Sons, at Floyd W. Jones Airport on South Missouri 5 and rents an airplane to the public. He says people have a misconception about the amount of time it takes to get a pilot’s license.
“It doesn’t take as long as what everybody thinks. Usually, they’re soloing generally by 15 to 20 hours of flying. They’re flying it by themselves without an instructor in the airplane,” Mather said.
