Young people flocked to the Laclede County Fairgrounds this week to show their livestock and farming skills.

Rabbits and poultry were shown during Monday’s judging, followed by beef cattle, sheep and hogs on Tuesday.

Some young people were out Monday getting ready for the day’s shows.

Rebecca Brown, daughter of Matthew and Karen Brown of Lebanon,  was showing chickens, including a Rhode Island Red. This was her second time showing at the fair.

“I like to show birds, it’s fun just to see what everyone else has taken care of and grown,” she said.

She admitted it is a lot of work.

“It begins with taking care of baby chicks, making sure they have the proper temperature and giving them enough food and water, things like that,” she said. “I’ve learned a lot about livestock and how to take care of chickens.”
