Fire destroys apartments

If it weren’t for a group of good Samaritans, a Thursday morning apartment fire could have been much more tragic.
While driving to work on Elm Street Thursday morning, former firefighter Jeff Stokes saw black smoke billowing into the air from the area of Boswell Park and his old career’s instincts kicked in. Stokes turned down Kent Drive and saw where the smoke was coming from — a two-story four-unit apartment building at 1310 Kent Drive was on fire.
When Stokes arrived, three other people were approaching the burning building. The four men rushed inside the apartment complex and started banging on doors, alerting the residents and telling them to get out of the building. The names of the other people who helped evacuate the building are not known at this time.
