City Councilman Ken Eldridge came to Lebanon because the Lucasville, Ohio, native remembered it fondly from his days of basic training as a Army National Guard soldier at Fort Leonard Wood.

One of Lebanon’s churches — he is not certain which one now — brought a busload of soldiers to Lebanon and fed them.

“That was a special treat to get off base and do that,” Eldridge said.

It made a sufficiently positive impact on Eldridge that he moved his family here in 1994, a move that ultimately led to his serving as the city councilman for Ward one.
