Free T-shirts, free food, and free fishing—the three staples of a good time to be a kid happen Saturday at Nelson Park.

The Lebanon Parks and Recreation Department will host the 15th annual Kids’ Fishing Day at Nelson Park from 9:00 a.m. until noon on Saturday, according to Elliot Wilburn, assistant director of Lebanon Parks.

The free fishing is open to all area kids ages 15 and under. The pond is being newly stocked today, so all the kiddos on Saturday will have a chance to catch a lunker.

In addition to the catch-and-release fishing, area businesses and organizations made donations. The YMCA donated a bounce house, Arvest Bank offers free hot dogs, and Missouri Eagle will bring the soda. The first 200 kids to arrive get a free T-shirt. Every kid gets a goodie bag and a ticket they write their name on to enter a raffle drawing for prizes.

Last year about 200 kids showed up for Kids’ Fishing Day, so Wilburn encourages people to show up early for the annual fishing event.

The Missouri Conservation Department will give first-time anglers a trophy. It is also sponsoring a largest fish contest by age group with prizes for the winners.

The type of tackle won’t be restricted. Kids should bring their own rods, bait and tackle. Those without equipment can check out a limited number of poles and nightcrawlers.
