When the doors open at the new Lebanon Middle School, a familiar face will be heading up the school’s administration staff.

In a closed session meeting this week, the Lebanon R-3 Board of Education chose current Lebanon Junior High School Principal Tom Merriott as the principal for the school that is planned to be open for the 2016-2017 school year. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Brad Armstrong, who is in charge of personnel for the district, stated in a media release that selecting the principal is “an important step” in the process of opening the new school.

“Tom has proven success as a leader in his tenure as principal at Lebanon Junior High, and his appointment to this position will allow for a smooth transition to the new middle school,” Armstrong said.

Merriott started his career in 1988 as an eighth-grade social studies teacher and then a history teacher at Lebanon High School.
