Dr. James D. Butts

Dr. James D. Butts, 87, of Rolla, formerly of Lebanon, died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at Phelps County Hospital.

He was born April 12, 1924 in Lebanon, Mo. to Ray Lester Butts and Helen (Vernon) Butts, who preceded him in death.

He graduated from Kemper Military School and attended Stanford University before transferring to the University of Missouri, Columbia, to pursue a degree in medicine. He completed his medical degree at the University of Tennessee.

He started his medical practice in the Rolla area in 1950 and practiced until his retirement in 1996.

Survivors include his wife of more than 60 years, Mary Margaret “Dodie’’ Butts; his four children, Jim Butts, Ann Key, Bob Butts, and Mary Helen Butts; six grandchildren, Christa Dennis, Brian Butts, John Kristian Key, Jared Key, Colleen Butts, and David Butts, also 10 great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass for Dr. James M. Butts was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rolla.

Burial was in Lebanon, under the direction of Null & Son Funeral Home of Rolla.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Patrick Parish in Rolla.
