Lebanon defeats Ladue in tournament championship ‘Jackets win first Wood Bat Tournament since 2007

The Lebanon High School baseball team won the Central Bank Wood Bat Tournament for the first time since 2007.

The Yellowjackets started the tournament off on Friday afternoon by defeating the Hartville Eagles, 8-0. Lebanon got a strong outing from Caius Gillen who pitched for the first time in three weeks as he pitched five innings, and struck out nine batters on the day.

Joe David Reid, 83, of Lebanon, died Thursday, April 30, 2015, at his home in Lebanon.

He was born on Oct. 6, 1931, in Jayess, Miss. to James H. and Beatrice Hall Reid.

On Aug. 5, 1952, he married Mildred L. Hoke.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers, Lester, Quila, Ray and Dennis Reid.

Joe Reid was an aircraft mechanic for Civil Service plus an equipment inspector at Fort Leonard Wood until his retirement in 1987. He also served our country in the United States Air Force.

Mary E. Davis

Mary E. Davis, 88, of Lebanon, died Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at Mercy Hospital Springfield.

She was born on Jan. 24, 1927, near Phillipsburg, Mo. to Oliver and Cora Noland Gage.

Early in her life she married Bill Jennings, who preceded her in death. On Sept. 9, 1988, she married William Cromer “Bill’’ Davis, who preceded her in death on Feb. 22, 1995.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jimmie and Clarence Gage, and four sisters, Ottie Whittaker, Alma Stowe, Alfie Marks, and Elvie Myers.

Teen taken to hospital after getting attacked by classmate

A teenager was taken to a hospital Thursday after he was attacked by a classmate while walking home from school.

A Lebanon Police officer was dispatched at about 3:30 p.m. to Hood Street to investigate the assault.

The victim, a 16-year-old boy, told the police that he had been having trouble with another student taking things from him at school, so he told the other boy that he was going to tell on him.

Alfred “Paul’’ Pogue

Alfred “Paul’’ Pogue, 85, of Lebanon, died Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at Mercy Hospital Lebanon.

He was born on July 26, 1929, in Ellington, Mo. to Alfred E. and Dulcie Rhea (Brewster) Pogue.

He married Maxine Brame in Webster County, who preceded him in death on June 16, 1996.

He also was preceded in death by four brothers, Ogie “Carter’’ Pogue, Virgil Pogue, Buyle Pogue and Floyd Pogue, also a sister.

Water rates rise in PWSD #1

Water rates are going up in Public Water Supply District No. 1, according to a media release from the district.

The Laclede County Public Water Supply District No. 1 Board of Directors will be holding a question-and-answer-style meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the district office at 20480 Granger Lane to inform the public about an upcoming water rate increase.

Kenneth Ruble

Kenneth Ruble, 73, of Lebanon, died Friday, May 1, 2015, in Lebanon.

He was born on June 25, 1941, in Laclede County, Mo. to Irvin and Cordelia Chastain


On June 23, 1962, he married Byna Jean Miller.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Robert Burman; his mother-in-law, Marium Doyne Miller Burman on April 29, 2015; a brother, William Curtis Ruble; a sister, Betty Brennan; and a sister-in-law, Regina Coffman.

Kenneth Ruble was a parts manager for Chrysler Automotive for 35 years, where he retired.
